SPEAKERS
Rod Johnston, MBA, CMA, Founder and Practice Transition Advisor, Omni Practice Group – {206) -979-2660, rod@omni-pg.com: Rod’s background in accounting, finance, sales, and real estate make him one of the most well-rounded practice transition consultants in America. Rod has an MBA from Seattle University and is a Certified Management Accountant. He is also an Accredited Business Appraiser by the Institute of Business Appraisers. Rod’s experience and background include stints as a financial planner, as Assistant Treasurer and Director of Accounting for AT&T Wireless, and as a Commercial Broker for Keller-Williams and Omni Healthcare Real Estate. Rod started Omni in 2004 with two things in mind; provide a Nordstrom-like service to help doctors with their transition, and to be an expert resource to medical professionals in the fields we work in. He has developed systems and processes in the brokerage industry that are mimicked and copied throughout the nation. He and his company has transitioned hundreds of practices with great success while maintaining a “win-win” relationship between his clients. Rod has written articles published in numerous publications, including Dentaltown, Dental Economics, Huffington Post, and others. He has also authored several chapters on valuations in a collaborative book published by Mike Abernathy, D.D.S. Rod has participated in Dentaltown podcasts and has presented at numerous local, state and national association conferences. Her dad was a dentist in Kansas, After relocating to Oregon, she worked as an EFDA and EFODA before working as an office manager and regional manager in the dental industry. She also worked with a dental-specific CPA where she determined she enjoyed helping dentists to sell and buy practices. Megan is so glad to be selling dental practices and helping buyers find dental practices for OMNI, and since she is a licensed real estate broker in Oregon, Megan can also assist with the sale of your dental condo or building. Tyler Jones, Partner, Helsell | Fetterman – (206) 689-2164, tjones@helsell.com: Tyler’s corporate practice consists of helping professionals such as physicians, dentists, veterinarians, CPAs and attorneys with all of their business needs. He helps professionals form their own companies, structure partnership and other joint ventures, and acquire existing practices. In addition, Tyler also practices in the area of estate planning, with an emphasis on tax-saving strategies. In this area, Tyler has significant experience assisting individuals with tax-savings oriented wills and living trusts, formation, and maintenance of irrevocable trusts, and coordinating individuals’ retirement plans with their overall estate plan. Once established, he assists with all legal matters that arise during a company’s tenure, including lease renewals, real estate acquisitions, space-sharing arrangements, issues with clients/patients, employment questions, partner buy-ins, multi-practice ownership, and partnership dissolution. When they are ready to retire, he helps his clients form and implement tax-efficient exit strategies, including sales of the businesses, deferred compensation structures, and other “buy-out” mechanisms.
