This event is for dentists who are considering buying a practice in the near future. In this course, you will learn about the legal, financial, logistical, and emotional aspects of buying a dental practice. Our team of experts will lecture and conduct Q&A sessions on the following topics:
- What to expect: The sequence of a dental practice transition
- Steps to purchasing a practice
- “Value vs. Price”
- The importance of Purchase Price Allocation
- 4 Keys of Bank Lending for Practice Acquisitions: Loan to Gross Ratio (How much the borrower can get), Liquidity (How much lenders like to see in “reserves” for a borrower), Production (How lenders make sure that the new owner will hit the ground running), Cash Flow (What it means and how it is calculated)
- Legal issues regarding buying a dental practice, including non-competes, tax structures and allocation, and liabilities
- Real estate issues that must be addressed

SPEAKERS
Megan Urban, Transition Specialist, Omni Practice Group – Megan has been serving the dental industry for over 25 years. She began her journey as a dental assistant and ultimately became a Regional Manager for a large dental group. She has an extensive background in helping dental teams reduce stress and become more profitable by locating areas of opportunity and helping set solid systems within the practice. Her clients appreciate that she customizes their plans to their practice so they can easily maintain them and have continued growth. She also assists her clients in buying or selling their practices.
Eric Tweed, Attorney, Saalfeld Griggs – As an attorney in the firm’s Business and Taxation group, Eric advises clients with businesses of all types and sizes. He often works on matters involving business entity formation and maintenance, contract review, non-profit organization and governance, purchase and sale transactions, and intellectual property matters. Eric is a member of the Dental and Veterinary industry groups at Saalfeld Griggs. He spends much of his day advising dentists and veterinarians through the practice transition process. Whether it be helping clients buy or sell a practice, Eric understands the issues specific to these industries and enjoys helping clients reach their goals.
Sarah Dunn, SVP, Relationship Manager, Columbia Healthcare Banking, Umpqua Bank – Sarah Dunn SVP, Relationship Manager serving Oregon and Southwest Washington, works with clients to help buy, start, refinance and grow their businesses. As part of the Healthcare Banking team, Sarah seeks to be an expert in the dental and healthcare space and is dedicated to listening and offering solutions that will best serve her clients. Sarah has more than 13 years of industry experience including more than four years with Columbia Bank, and received her Bachelor of Arts from Biola University in 2003 where she studied communications. Sarah is committed to serving her local community and has volunteered her time with Providence Child Center and Financial Beginnings.
